Doug Foote focuses on serving the needs of entrepreneurs and small and medium sized businesses and their owners and executives in the areas of domestic and international business transactions; business entity selection, organization, and governance; contracts; corporate law; financing, including debt and private equity transactions; mergers and acquisitions; employment matters; and general business law. He also counsels and represents lawyers and law firms on matters of legal ethics.

Doug has served as CEO, COO, and CFO of companies in the medical device, environmental, and engineering and consulting fields, as well as general counsel to three operating divisions of a Fortune 250 company. His representation, advice, and creative solutions reflect an experience-based understanding of the effects of legal issues and advice in real-world business situations.

Doug is a member of the Bars of the Supreme Court of the United States, Colorado, and Connecticut and the U.S. Court of International Trade; the Colorado Bar Association (Ethics Committee 1987-2020-, Chair 1998-99) (Chair, Joint Task Force on Multidisciplinary Practice of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations) (Fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation); and the American Bar Association (Business Law Section and Center for Professional Responsibility). He is past-president of the Colorado Association of Corporate Counsel. For many years, Doug taught business law in undergraduate business programs, business law and international business in post-graduate MBA programs, and served as Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Law at the University of Colorado Denver School of Pharmacy and on the faculty of the Regis University School of Pharmacy.

He is a director, treasurer and member of the executive committee of HealthTeamWorks, a non-profit multi-stakeholder collaborative working to redesign the healthcare delivery system and promote integrated communities of care, using evidence-based medicine and innovative systems.

Doug is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School; earned an LL.M. in International Law at King’s College, University of London; a J.D., Order of the Coif, at the University of Colorado; and a B.S.B.A. in Finance, with highest honors, at the University of Denver. He also holds a Diploma in Chinese Law from the University of East Asia (now East Asia College, University of Macau), earned while living in Hong Kong. Doug served on active duty in the U.S. Navy and continued in active reserve service, retiring as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.
